APLNG and Aucerna Win 2016 Australian Engineering Excellence Award
BRISBANE, September 9, 2016 – We are proud to announce that Aucerna (Formerly 3esi-Enersight) and APLNG were recognized for setting a new standard of engineering excellence for CSG to LNG projects at the Australian Engineering Excellence Awards 2016.
The $23b Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG) project is one of three coal seam gas (CSG) to liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects that have been developed in Queensland, Australia. This project has commenced delivery of LNG to markets in Asia based upon long term supply contract and is underpinned by more than 13,000 PJ of P2 reserve gas from in excess of 10,000 wells over 50 years. After an intense 8 month rollout of Aucerna's asset development software in late 2014, and continued development on the stochastic modelling capability, APLNG's management team put forward the project for an Australian Engineering Excellence award.
APLNG’s model includes the worlds' first instance of stochastic probability distribution functions and correlations being applied as inputs to a full field, surface network, flow constrained model. This model is capable of multiple product constrained flow, economic cost forecasting and analysis for the 10,000+ planned wells over the life of field. Aucerna software enabled the fully scoped project to be risk analyzed within a comprehensive constrained surface flow network for both production and economics, another world first.
Undertaking the modelling at this detailed level offers a more sophisticated planning platform for analysis relative to the traditional approach of utilising simplified excel models, providing capability to produce better insights for improved management decision making and a greater awareness of possible project outcomes.
The community at large benefits from this new standard of Australian engineering as well. APLNG was able to review risks and previously unidentifiable outcomes to be measured for likelihood, and in turn allow opportunities for mitigation to be identified, planned, and implemented when required. Consultations with the community can now happen sooner, and earlier identifications enable more measured and phased approaches.
We are proud to partner with APLNG and support them in their approach to sustainably grow their operations with a continuous focus on health, safety, and environmental best practices.

About the AEEA Awards
The Australian Engineering Excellence Awards (AEEA) Queensland 2016 aim to inspire and encourage engineers to achieve world's best practice through teamwork, innovation and technical excellence. The Awards provide an opportunity for peer recognition, whilst raising the profile of the profession. They also highlight the invaluable contribution engineers make to the economy, community and the environment.
